Comments
When visitors leave comments, we collect the data shown in the comment form, plus the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to aid spam detection.
An anonymized hash of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check for an avatar; their privacy policy is at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Your profile picture becomes publicly visible after comment approval.
Media
Uploaded images should not contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS), as visitors can download and extract it.
Cookies
Commenters can opt-in to save their name, email, and website in cookies for convenience; these last one year.
Login page visits set a temporary test cookie (no personal data, discarded on browser close). Login creates cookies for authentication and display options: login lasts 2 days (or 2 weeks with “Remember Me”), screen options last 1 year. Logging out removes login cookies.
Editing/publishing an article sets a cookie with the post ID (no personal data) and it expires after 1 day.
Embedded Content
Articles may include embeds (videos, images, etc.) from other sites, which act as if you visited them directly. Those sites may collect data, use cookies, track interactions, especially if you are logged in there.

Comments and metadata are kept indefinitely for auto-recognition of follow-ups (avoiding moderation queues).
Registered users’ profile data is stored; users can view/edit/delete it anytime (except usernames). Website administrators can also access it.
